The art of Michael DuBois has been described as visionary, surrealistic, psychedelic, all of which fail to adequately define a body of work that transcends conventional categorization.

Working in mixed-media, oil painting, and computer graphics, DuBois has established himself as a pioneer in the work of contemporary music art, with commissions by The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, Hot Tuna, The Jerry Garcia Band, Michael Hedges, Wavy Gravy, Gov’t Mule, The Wailers, Phil Lesh and Friends, Levon Helm, Bob Weir and RatDog, Santana and The Rolling Stones. DuBois also produces tour merchandise and special event products for shows including The Tampa Bay Blues Festival, Gathering Of The Vibes, and a benefit concert for Arthur Lee of the band Love featuring Ian Hunter, Ryan Adams, Nils Lofgren, Yo La Tango and Robert Plant.

Born in 1963, DuBois grew up in Syracuse, NY and began drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil. By the age of twelve he was designing t-shirts for local organizations and at eighteen he was painting murals on the sides of city buildings for the Syracuse Art Squad. In 1981, DuBois went to study art at SUNY New Paltz, focusing on metal-smithing and jewelry design while continuing his mural painting. In 1985 he moved to San Francisco where he began designing posters for Bay Area rock bands and festivals. Returning east in 1987, DuBois settled in Woodstock, NY and founded Happylife Productions, a multi-faceted company which produces an extensive line of greeting cards, window stickers, children’s clothing, t-shirts and limited edition prints featuring reproductions of his original paintings. Happylife has since become an international distributor of these products.

DuBois currently oversees Happylife Productions and DuBois Studios, does commission work, graphic design, fine painting and licenses his work for reproduction on a variety of products.

Based in Woodstock, DuBois art reaches worldwide audiences through his reproductions, concert t-shirts, prints, posters and other licensed products.

DuBois’ work has been included in exhibitions at the Art Rock Gallery in San Francisco, the Bess Cutler Gallery in Soho, NY and the James Cox gallery in Woodstock NY.
